Indigenous Arts Application Dates 2023

Culture matters deeply to Islanders. It is an essential part of who we are as a people and what we have to offer as a province. It is rich, and it is strong.  We aim to sustain that culture by transforming the ways in which we support and strengthen our creative industries in Prince Edward Island.

Both the PEI Indigenous Art Bank Acquisition and Indigenous Arts Grant application dates are fast approaching.  You may submit or apply by the application deadline of March 8th, 2023.

Indigenous Arts Grants program

The mandate of the PEI Arts Grants is to support, assist, encourage and represent the arts community in the province. Funding is available to Prince Edward Island artists through a juried grant application process.  In 2021 an Indigenous Art Grants program was established to celebrate, highlight, support and encourage the artistic accomplishments of the Mi’kmaq people of Epekwitk (PEI). The PEI Culture Action Plan aspires for all Islanders to have opportunities to engage with the art forms that derive from Indigenous language, world views, practices, traditions and protocols.

Indigenous Art Bank

The Prince Edward Island Art Bank collection was established in the early 1980s to support and encourage visual artists living in Prince Edward Island. The works of art for the collection represent the artistic diversity of Island visual artists and are acquired through purchase (when funding is available), donation, gift and bequest. In 2021 an Indigenous Art Bank of Epekwitk was established to celebrate and highlight the artistic accomplishments of the Mi’kmaq people of Epekwitk (PEI). The PEI Culture Action Plan aspires for all Islanders to have opportunities to engage with the art forms that derive from Indigenous language, world views, practices, traditions and protocols.
